Many still can't install KB5034441, KB5037849, and KB5037768 updates on Windows 10

Of late, it’s starting to look like Microsoft is not too concerned about Windows 10. A series of recent updates failed to install, and Microsoft, although formally acknowledged the problem, has yet to patch things. Right now, three Windows 10 updates throwing an install error are KB5034441, KB5037849, and KB5037768!

As for KB5034441, reports of installation issues have been ongoing ever since the update was released, i.e., almost 5 months. And it’s mostly the 0x80070643 update error.

On its part, Microsoft initially talked about releasing a fix and asked users to temporarily ignore the update. But the Redmond-based tech giant soon backtracked and then wanted users to manually fix the 0x80070643 error in Windows 10, because it reportedly isn’t patchable.

To fix it, they had to manually resize the recovery partition to at least 250 MB or, ideally, 750 MB, the steps for which are listed in Microsoft’s official blog. This approach fails on two levels. First, the process is fairly technical for regular Windows users, and second, even manually resizing the partition doesn’t fix the KB5034441 update error in many cases.

Users furious over frequent update errors in Windows 10

Upon encountering errors with multiple updates on Windows 10, many have started to believe that it’s a tactic by Microsoft to force users to upgrade to Windows 11. Others think it’s just a lack of focus on Microsoft’s part.

I too am having the same failure for KB5037849 from 2-3 days ago and just trying again and sure will fail again. and the KB5034441 I have given up on. We should NOT have to mess around resizing Partitions. I think Microsoft are doing this deliberately because they want people switch to Windows 11.
KB5037849 is stuck at 1% download and going nowhere !!

For me, one downloads but fails too install but the other claims it downloads but never does the % download step and just goes too install but then says failed. Also can’t find anything on how to resize anyways. Besides we shouldn’t need to be fixing Microsoft’s mistakes.

I increased size of Recovery Partition to 2GB but still the Update will not install or even download.

Microsoft Update KB5034441 keeps failing to update since Jan. 2024. Microsoft recommends you partition your hard drive to make space for the update. People have partitioned their hard drive and they still get the error trying to update. I am not going to ruin my computer anyways.

Our simple workaround for the 0x80070643 error with KB5034441

Since we have established that resizing the Recovery Partition doesn’t always work, it’s time to discover another fix that, surprisingly, gets the job done and is relatively easier to execute. All you have to do is perform an in-place upgrade on Windows 10.

To perform a repair upgrade, download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s official website > run the setup > accept the license terms > choose the Upgrade this PC now option > click Next > wait for the download to complete > then proceed with the installation.

An in-place upgrade doesn’t affect the stored files. But we recommend you back them up using an external storage to be on the safe side.

I personally believe that Microsoft should do a lot more to get rid of these Windows 10 update errors because a majority of the user base is still on the iteration. According to Statcounter, Windows 10 commands 63.86% of the market compared to 27.64% by Windows 11!
